Live music by “The Appalucians” 6 pm

Clean-up participants (21 years & up) will receive one free Ivy River Pale for their efforts!

Join Ivy River Partners for a community river clean-up at Redmon Dam near downtown Marshall and celebrate with us after at Mad Co Brew House for a beer release celebration featuring the “Ivy River Pale,” plus made-from-scratch Sweet Monkey Pizza ($2/slice). Stay for live music by Black Mountain folk band “The Appalucians.”

All clean-up equipment provided (gloves, trash grabbers, bags, waders)

Directions to Redmon Dam Clean-up

From downtown Marshall:

Head North on Main Street to HWY 25/70. Turn left onto 25/70 and drive .7 mile. Turn left onto Little Pine Road and drive 1 mile. Turn left onto Sweet Water Rd. (there is no “Sweet Water” street sign on this side of Little Pine Rd., but there is on the right side for reference). Follow this road, keeping right at the fork and pass under railroad bridge to river parking lot that is located next to dam on French Broad River. Park Here.

Rain Garden Certification Workshop


Are you interested in gaining skills and certification needed to build rain gardens, either for personal or professional use? Want to learn the following?

  • Understand why stormwater needs to be managed.
  • Understand the importance of properly-designed practices.
  • Understand the principles of rain garden location, construction and maintenance.
  • Learn how to properly design and size rain gardens and other BMPs.
  • Be able to select appropriate vegetation.
  • Design, build and plant a small rain garden.
  • Be eligible to take a test at the conclusion of the training to be certified in rain garden design and installation.

FREE "Shade your Stream" Backyard Stream Repair Workshop

Interested in erosion control, invasive species removal, native plants, right-of-way maintenance, storm water control?

Please join Ivy River Partners and NC State Extension for an all-day workshop to learn how to repair and shade your stream using native livestakes (live-plant cuttings)

FREE Workshop Includes:

-Expert Instruction* & Printables

-Lunch

-Hands-on streambank planting/repair

-Takehome livestake cuttings such as Ninebark, Elderberry, and Silky Dogwood

Who Should Attend: HOA officers, homeowners/ landowners, local government personnel, landscapers, landscape contractors, RLAs, engineers, utility workers, park managers, students and environmental educators.

*commercial pesticide applicator credits available
